The required conduct includes, but is not limited to, participating in a discussion with the student who is suspected of violating the Policy, and honestly answering questions and documenting the matter to the President of the Academic Senate and the College`s Director of Education. This policy provides the exclusive procedure for dealing with issues related to academic dishonesty at West Hills College Lemoore. The faculty is responsible for reporting alleged violations to the Office of Investigation as provided for in this policy. The faculty is responsible for taking reasonable steps to inform students of the rules of academic honesty applicable to certain academic documents and the specific types of academic support allowed in connection with such academic work. In addition, each faculty member must take appropriate measures to promote a climate of academic honesty. Failure by a faculty member to fulfill these responsibilities is not a defense against the charge of academic dishonesty against a student. The Council for Academic Honesty handles all cases of academic dishonesty on campus. Formal definitions of academic dishonesty, examples of various forms of dishonesty, and procedures that faculty must follow to punish dishonesty are included in the academic honesty policy. There are two main ways to resolve cases where dishonesty is suspected: informal resolution and formal indictment. In both cases, the faculty member must first inform the student of the concern and offer a meeting (see Faculty Guide). “Academic honesty” means performing any scientific work without plagiarism, fraud, lying, manipulation, theft, receiving unauthorized or illegitimate assistance from another person, or using a source of information that is not generally known. Plagiarism – Submission for academic progress of another person`s words, ideas, opinions, or theories that are generally not known, without proper attribution to that other person.
Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, the following actions when performed without proper attribution: The academic honesty policy has been established to ensure that the learning environment at the university is honest and fair. The policy is designed to provide teachers and students with options to deal with incidents. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to: this policy is adopted by the College to advance its academic mission. For the sake of fairness, the policy requires notification of a student who is suspected of violating this policy, provides for facilitated discussion between the student and faculty member to find a fair solution, and if no solution can be found, it allows for ongoing discussion with a complaints committee designated by the Academic Senate. These procedures are designed to 1) protect the rights and interests of students and other members of the college community, 2) ensure basic fairness for all, and 3) ensure order. The forums used in academic honesty are intended to improve educational opportunities while providing appropriate consequences in case of academic dishonesty. All students must practice academic honesty. Academic misconduct is punishable by academic sanction by the professor and/or disciplinary sanction by the university. Academic honesty is essential to the fabric and integrity of the college. All students must adhere to an appropriate and healthy policy of academic honesty and an honest code of conduct. All members of the college community are responsible for creating and maintaining an honest environment, and all must work together to ensure the success of the policy and code of conduct. “Academic Work” means any action taken in connection with work that must be submitted, must be prepared to be submitted, or that is actually intended to advance academically in courses and programs offered by the College. Academic work includes, but is not limited to, exams, exercises, quizzes, sessional work, reports, performances, presentations, artwork, laboratory papers, and scientific experiments. Academic work may take any form, including but not limited to written, oral, magnetic or electronic form. Academic work includes, but is not limited to, working in conjunction with regular college courses (whether delivered on campus or in another location), independent study courses at any location, courses offered as part of the college`s continuing education and distance learning program at any location. If a student does not meet the requirements or consequences of a violation of dishonesty or refuses, the Office of Education may convene a grievance committee whose sole purpose is to determine whether the student has not met or refused to meet the requirements or consequences assigned. If it is determined that the student does not meet the requirements or has refused, the committee may impose additional consequences deemed appropriate for the violation. Formal charges may be filed by a faculty member with the Council for Academic Honesty if there is no agreement on an informal resolution.
The student has the right to appeal the formal charge, in which case a hearing will be held and a decision will be made by the Council of Academic Honesty. If a formal charge is upheld, this will result in a sanction and enrollment in the student`s disciplinary file. “I will be academically honest in all my academic work and I will not tolerate the academic dishonesty of others.” All students agree to abide by this code by signing the application for admission to West Hills College Lemoore Informal resolutions are a quick way to deal with cases of dishonesty. In an informal resolution, the instructor and student accept a penalty, complete and sign an informal resolution form describing the incident, and send it to the Academic Honesty Board. .
